THE PLACE WITH THE MOST SPECTACULAR PROPERTIES OF SANTA CATARINA.
A postcard of Ilha de Santa Catarina, in Florianópolis, Lagoa da Conceição, or Nossa Senhora da Conceição da Lagoa, was the first parish founded in the state of Santa Catarina, in the year 1750 and - a great honor for Santa Catarina -, visited by D. Pedro II in 1875.
It is divided into two parts: Lagoa de Dentro, where Canto da Lagoa is located, and Lagoa de Fora, facing the sunrise, where Avenida das Rendeiras, crafts, bars, and kiosks are located, the two parts are joined by a bridge.
A local legend tells of the love story between Peri, the Indigenous, and the Conceição, the witch. He's the son of a chief, she of witches. Their love was banned by both families, as in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. When discovering that the couple was hidden, the witches launched a curse: Peri turned into a lagoon in the south of the island, with fresh waters and the shape of a heart. The tears of sadness of the beautiful in love filled the Lagoa da Conceição with salt water.
